Pashmina Shawls

The Ultimate Luxury Wrap — Handwoven from Himalayan Fiber

Our pashmina shawls are handwoven from the ultra-fine undercoat of Chyangra mountain goats found above 14,000 feet in the Himalayas. Each fiber measures just 12-16 microns in diameter, giving pashmina its legendary softness and warmth. Every shawl is woven on traditional wooden handlooms by skilled artisans in Kathmandu, a process that takes 4-8 hours for a plain weave and up to two weeks for jacquard or embroidered designs. Our shawls carry the NPIA Chyangra Pashmina trademark, guaranteeing authenticity.

How It's Made

Understanding the production process helps you appreciate the craftsmanship and communicate the product story to your customers.

Raw pashmina fiber is collected during the spring molting season from Chyangra goats in Mustang and Manang districts. The fiber is hand-cleaned to remove guard hair and debris, then hand-spun on a traditional charkha spinning wheel. Weavers set up the warp on wooden handlooms and weave each shawl by hand. After weaving, shawls undergo finishing — gentle washing in cold water, frame stretching for even drape, and hand-fringing. Embroidered pieces are passed to specialized needle workers who add patterns using chain stitch, aari, or sozni techniques. Every shawl passes the ring test — it can be drawn through a standard wedding ring.

Pashmina Shawls — Frequently Asked Questions

How do I perform the ring test for authenticity?
Take a genuine pashmina shawl and gently scrunch it into a loose bundle. Thread it through a standard wedding ring (about 18mm inner diameter). Authentic ultrafine pashmina will pass through smoothly because the fibers are just 12-16 microns — finer than cashmere or any synthetic. If the shawl cannot pass through, it likely contains coarser fibers or synthetic blends.
What is the difference between Grade A, B, and C pashmina?
Grade A pashmina uses fiber measuring 12-14 microns — the finest and rarest, commanding the highest price. Grade B ranges from 14-16 microns and offers excellent softness at a more accessible price point. Grade C (16-19 microns) overlaps with standard cashmere quality. We primarily work with Grade A and B for our shawl collection.
Can I get shawls with my brand label?
Yes, we offer full private labeling. You can provide your own woven labels, hang tags, and packaging, or we can produce them for you. Private label orders require a minimum of 100 pieces per design and 4-6 weeks lead time. We handle everything from label stitching to retail-ready packaging.
What customs duty applies to pashmina shawls?
Nepal is an LDC (Least Developed Country) and qualifies for preferential trade programs in most developed countries. The EU's EBA program and US GSP program often provide zero or reduced duty on Nepali pashmina. We provide proper Certificate of Origin and HS code classification (typically 6214.20 for pashmina shawls) to help you claim these preferences.
How should pashmina shawls be washed?
Hand wash in cold water (below 30 degrees Celsius) with a pH-neutral wool detergent or baby shampoo. Gently press without wringing or twisting. Roll in a clean towel to absorb excess water, then lay flat on a dry towel away from direct sunlight. Never machine wash, tumble dry, or iron directly. Dry cleaning is safe but unnecessary for routine care.
